Virginia eBird
Virginia eBird is the regional node of eBird. eBirdis a real-time, online checklist program for collecting, viewing, and analyzing bird obserrvations in the western hemisphere. Launched in 2002 by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and National Audubon Society, eBird provides rich data sources for basic information on bird abundance and distribution at a variety of spatial and temporal scales.

Northern Virginia eBird Hotspot Map
The objective of the eBird hotspot map is to show popular birding locations in Northern Virginia. Hotspots include all the Virginia Birding and Wildlife Trail sites, many of our local parks, and various other destinations for great birding. The map uses basic Google Maps navigation and functionality. For example by clicking on a dot you can:

• Get directions to the location. This will use Google’s street map directions.
• Get eBird occurrence charts for the selected hotspot.

The see the occurrence chart, click on the blue dot and next click on the URL that is displayed right of the eBird field. Once you click on the URL the chart will open in the same window. Not every hotspot may have a bar chart associated with it. This simply means that no observations have been submitted for this location.
